LAND SPACE IS SCARCE
Solar panels offer the most successful way of harvesting renewable energy at this time. Until now solar panels are installed on land or at inshore waters. However, land space is often limited and needed for housing, recreation, industry, roads, and agriculture. Destroying forests and nature around us and replacing them with PV farms, is not the way to go. Why not use the sea around you?
OCEAN SPACE IS ENDLESS
The planet's oceans and seas offer a lot of space. With only a fraction of that space covered by solar panels, a lot of energy can be generated – as much as needed.
The first offshore solar farm in the world is already installed by Oceans of Energy in 2019 on the North Sea, and still in operation today. The same technology can be applied in any water, for any coastal region or island in the world. The future lies at sea.
IDEAL FOR REMOTE ISLANDS
The Oceans of Energy offshore floating solar system is ideal for remote islands where often polluting and expensive diesel generators are used as the main source of energy. Our offshore floating solar system does not need space on land, is clean, less expensive than diesel generators and needs no daily filling up.
PERFECT COMBINATION WITH OFFSHORE WIND
Offshore Solar combines perfectly with Offshore Wind. Together they use the sea more efficiently, as the solar panels can be placed in-between the offshore wind turbines. When offshore solar is added to offshore wind, 5 times (!) more energy is produced at the same area of sea. Sun and wind together offer a more stable and continuous power supply, as the winters have more wind while the summers are more sunny. Also the power cables to land could be shared as well as maintenance and installation works.
